Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Mohammad Badiuzzaman has urged the journalists to publish corruption reports with credible information to help the ACC and win prestigious prizes given by the Commission.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a prize distribution ceremony titled ‘ACC Media Award-2014’ held in its conference centre on Thursday.
“We often fall in confusion when we find dissimilarity in a report published by different media houses. Sometimes we find that a report published or telecast by a media house is protested by another house. It confuses us to take decision”, he said, adding that journalism should be far from this practice.
ACC Chairman depicted data on corruption reports of different years, which had been taken into cognizance by the commission for investigation.
The number of 155 reports on corruption out of 659 were taken into cognizance in 2013, 115 out of 676 in 2012, 97 out of 303 in 2011, 82 out of 282 in 2010 and 4 out of 72 in 2009.
Journalist leader and Chief Editor of Boishakhi TV Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, ACC Commissioners Shahabuddin Chuppu and Dr Mohammad Nasiruddin Ahmed were speaking as the special guests while the Commission’s secretary Mohammad Faizur Rahman was in the chair.
Manjurul Ahsan said, unless the root of corruption is ericted, the practice of corruption cannot be stopped only by sending some alleged accused in jail.
Shahabuddin Chuppu said, the media can play an important role through its accurate informative reports to reduce the corruption to a great extent.
Dr Nasiruddin says, the commission will have to stress on prevention of corruption.

The daily Somokal Editor Golam Sarwar, The Independent, an English daily, former Editor Mahbubul Alam and Boishakhi TV’s Chief Editor Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul were judges. The three winners also delivered their welcome speech.
