The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday interrogated a businessman in connection with illegal money transfers by Bangladeshi nationals as surfaced in Panama Papers.
A three-member team, led by ACC deputy director Akhter Hamid, questioned director and shareholder of Rightstar Private Limited Asmat Moin for two hours from 123 pm at the ACC head office, according to official sources. The Commission earlier sent notices to 11 people in connection with the Panama Papers and has already taken statements of four people in this regard, while five more are scheduled to be interrogated. Notices will be sent to them once their addresses will be available, the officials said. The names of some Bangladeshi people and institutions surfaced in media that they have links with Panama Papers.
In early April last, the ACC launched probes against Bangladeshi citizens and institutions named in the Panama Papers. The three-member ACC team is currently working to find out whether any Bangladeshis or institution named in Panama Papers have offshore accounts or not.
