Staff Reporter :A probe team of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday interrogated four executives of Janata Bank (JB) in connection with waiving of interest for Tk 12.21 crore to Mushnaware Product Ltd, a galvanised ware production company. The five-member team led by ACC Deputy Director Mir Mohammad Joynal Abedin Shibli questioned them between 10:00 and 1:00 pm in the Commission’s head office at Segunbagicha, Dhaka. The four executives are Deputy General Manager (DGM) of JB Corporate branch M Azmul Huq, Assistant General Manager (AGM) Ajoy Kumar Ghosh, DGM of Zonal Branch SM Abu Hena Mostofa Kamal and General Manager (GM) of Head Office M Abdus Salam Azad.According to the complaint lodged with the ACC, the board of directors of the JB in its 205th meeting held on October 19 in 2011 waived an amount of Tk 12,21,42,771 as interest accrued in the loan account of the company labeling it as ‘sick’Mahbubur Rahman, owner of the company, was sanctioned Tk 16 crore as loan by the Janata Bank Corporate branch in 2005. But for non-payment of interest, the outstanding amount increased to Tk 28 crore by 2011. The four bankers helped him how to file an appeal with the board of directors for waiving of interest. They also convinced the board directors to take a favourable decision. And within one and a half months of it, Mahbubur Rahman sold the company to Hall Mark Group for Tk 35 crore.  The ACC may also summon the members of the board of directors in this regard, said an officer of the Commission, not to be named.
