Staff Reporter :
The BNP on Sunday harshly reacted to the Anti-Corruption Commission for its appeal in the High Court to increase the party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s punishment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
It thus proves that the ACC is playing the second fiddle to the Prime Minister.
“The ACC does what the Prime Minister desires. The ACC chief is the brain child of the PM,” said the BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, while addressing a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan office.
Rizvi asked the government to release Khaleda Zia immediately.”If the government does not release her soon, the people of the country will wage massive agitation to oust the government,” Rizvi said.
The BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General also censured the ruling Awami League General Secretary and the Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader’s Saturday statement in which he said there was no example in the world that Prime Minister steps down during election.
Rizvi asked, “Is there any example in the world that the Parliament is not dissolved during election?”
The BNP leader also criticized Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad’s speech in which he asked to form polls time government without dissolving the Parliament.
Rizvi said, “Ershad favoured Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina addressing the public meeting taking huge benefits from the government.”
BNP Vice-Chairman Mir Muhammad Nasir Uddin, Chairperson’s Advisory Council Member Ataur Rahman Dhali, Habibur Rahman Habib, Publicity Secretary Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Assistant Organizing Secretary Abdus Salam Azad, Central leader Asadul Karim Shahin and Aminul Islam were present.
