The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday suspended an assistant director of its Rajshahi zila office for allegedly accumulating illegal wealth and getting involved in corruption.
The Commission at its regular meeting suspended assistant director Amirul Islam on graft charges, a top official of the Commission told UNB wishing not to be named. Earlier, the ACC initiated a probe against Amirul after receiving specific graft allegations. The national anti-graft body in its preliminary probe found that Amirul has got Tk 13 lakh deposited in his bank accounts, but he failed to show the valid sources of the money.
The probe also found that his spouse has 1.3 acres of land in Gazipur and Tangail, which worth about Tk 1.75 crore. Amirul handed over the lands, which was brought by earning illegal money against his wife’s name, the ACC official said. ACC director general Munir Chowdhury said as Amirul did not mention the wealth in his wealth statement earlier submitted to the Commission and that is why he has been suspended.
Munir said, legal action will also be taken against the suspended ACC official on graft charges.
