Banking sector major area of corruption

Chairman of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) M Badiuzzaman said that banking sector is the major area where most corruptions and irregularities took place in the last few years.
“People deposit their money in banks for security, but the banks’ authorities use the money capriciously, as if they have inherited it”.
The ACC chairman made this comment at a view exchange meeting with government officials held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chittagong on Tuesday. “The country’s economy is thus being destroyed,” he said.
Hall-Mark Group, he said, simply looted money randomly in the name of taking loans from different banks, including Sonali Bank, against false and low price documents.
“Destiny Group has embezzled thousands of crores of taka deposited by several lakh people in the name of selling trees though there were no sign of such trees”. M Badiuzzaman said, ACC found evidence of corruption against some former and incumbent MPs of the party in power and ministers after scrutinising their affidavits along with nomination papers submitted to the Election Commission (EC) for taking part in the 10th national polls held on January 5.
ACC, he says, has somewhat changed its policy to fight corruption. “We will not investigate against all the incidents of corruption at a time. The anti-graft body will only hold inquiry into big corruptions”.
“The Sections No-420, 467 and 468 of ACC Act-2013 has authorised it to examine any deceitful matter. But the commission will only enquire into such matter as involves the government’s interest”, he said, adding that the police could investigate any other cheating matter. “ACC is likely to correct its provision soon in this connection”.
ACC Chairman urged the government officials not to engage themselves in corruption and shelter corrupts. In case of abiding by his argument, the corruption may gradually be reduced from the society. In the moderation of Chittagong DC Mezba Uddin, the meeting was, among others, participated by CDA Chairman Abdus Salam and Chittagong Metropolitan Police’s Additional Commissioner (Crimes and Operation) Bonoj Kumar Majumder.
