ACC must initiate legal proceedings against its Director

We do not want to see Anti-Corruption Commission to be the reservoir of corruption. It is the truth the anti-corruption movement should start to make the ministers corruption free. That is not to happen. Because election could be won and the government can continue in power through corruption.
Anti-Corruption Commission on Monday suspended its director Khandaker Enamul Basir for allegedly leaking a probe report to Deputy Inspector General of Police Mizanur Rahman in exchange of bribe, who is accused of earning wealth through illegal means.
A private TV channel on Sunday aired a report that DIG Mizanur Rahman gave Tk 40 lakh bribe to Basir for exonerating DIG Mizan of all charges against him. Following the report, the anti-graft watchdog formed a probe body headed by its Secretary Muhammad Delwar Bakht and asking to submit its findings yesterday.
ACC had begun the probe against DIG Mizan in May last year. Mizan issue hit the media headlines in January last year when he was withdrawn from his post at Dhaka Metropolitan Police after allegations arose that he forcibly married and tortured a woman at gunpoint, who was a news presenter of a private television channel. On April 25 last year, ACC summoned DIG Mizan for inquiring about his illegal wealth.
Corruption is a game of high government functionaries in Bangladesh. Crores of taka are handled everyday by the corrupt officials. Banks are collapsing for high corruption. Free election is not possible for protecting highly planned corruption in Bangladesh. So, news of taking millions of taka bribe money by an ACC Director from an accused police official has not shocked or surprised us. But we shall insist that the truth be established through court proceedings and not through departmental proceedings of their own. The Anti-Corruption Commission has not been able to earn public trust.
The Anti-Corruption Commission does not deserve all the blame for its failure to fight corruption because corruption is power. The political structure of honest government has been dismantled. Yet when public allegations are heard the Commission must do what is seen as right.
