The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an inquiry into the alleged complaint that Tk 55 crore had been plundered from the Sirajganj 225 Megawatt enlargement Power Plant, sources in ACC said.
ACC forming a team, with a deputy director as chief, has directed to complete the investigation within a short time.
On July 5 in 2011, a proposal was placed in the project scrutiny meeting for consideration to enhance the power plant to 225 MW from 150 MW.
The proposal was approved in the ECNEC meeting on April 10, 2012. The total cost of the project was estimated for Tk 678 crore.
CMC-China managed the 75 MW conversion work project for Tk 600 crore without tender.
A similar powerful (75 MW) combined cycle project financed by ADB in Khulna was given to Sanghai Electric Group for Tk 545 crore.
As the government did not get time to negotiate about the Sirajganj power plant, the work order was Tk 55 crore more.
The extra money could have been avoided if the work was served through tender, an investigation official wishing anonymity told The New Nation yesterday.
