Staff Reporter : The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday interrogated Awami League MP Aslamul Haque as part of its ongoing probe into the wealth he ‘amassed’ illegally. Aslamul Haque is now ruling Awami League’s MP from Dhaka-14. ACC deputy director Sheikh Mesbah Uddin grilled Aslamul Haque at the ACC headquarters at Segunbagicha in the city. The interrogation begun at 10am and continued for more than one-and-half-hour, said an ACC official. Earlier, on February 26, the commission sent a notice to Aslamul asking him to be present at the ACC head office to face the grilling. As per the affidavit submitted last year by Aslamul Haque to the Election Commission before the 10th parliamentary election held on January 5 this year, he and his wife had land of over 145 acres worth about Tk 20 million. However, Aslamul in his affidavit submitted to the EC ahead of the 9th parliamentary polls in 2008 had mentioned that he and his wife had 4.19 acres of land worth only Tk 2 million. On January 12, 2014, the ACC launched probes into the allegations of unusual wealth accumulation by seven politicians, including Aslamul. The ACC in its first phase is now conducting probes into the graft allegations against former Health Minister Dr AFM Ruhal Haque, former State Minister for Housing and Public Works Abdul Mannan Khan, former State Minister for Water Resources M Mahbubur Rahman, Enamul Haque, MP, (Rajshahi-4), Abdur Rahman Bodi, MP, (Ukhia-Teknaf), Aslamul Haque, MP, (Dhaka-14) and Abdul Jabbar, a former MP (Satkhira-2), according to UNB.
