ACC forms probe body over N-95 masks purchasing graft

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has formed a probe committee to investigate allegations of corruption in purchasing of N-95 masks and Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs) for the health ministry.
ACC Director Mir Md Joynul Abedin Shibli heads the four-member body comprising Deputy Director Md Nurul Huda, Assistant Director Md Saiduzzaman Nandan and Assitant Director Ataur Rahman, said Pranab Kumar Battacharya, Public Relations Officer of the ACC.
The team will submit a report to the commission to take legal action against the persons who were involved with such irregularities and corruption in the health sector.
ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmud said that important materials like masks and other PPEs are related to the safety of the doctors, nurses or health workers. Therefore, the commission will fulfill its legal duty to bring the guilty to justice by revealing the real story. Those who are involved must be held accountable.
Earlier on April 24, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare formed a committee to investigate allegation that low-quality N-95 masks were passed on to some government hospitals.
Earlier Mask supplier Central Medical Stores Depot (CMSD) was show-caused. After reviewing the allegation and the supplier’s response, the Ministry formed a three-member investigation committee, a Health Ministry press release said.
