Mannan's wealth case: ACC finds evidence of irregularities

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has found evidence of irregularities in wealth and property owned by former State Minister for Housing and Public Works Advocate Abdul Mannan Khan, sources said. Investigation Officer and ACC Deputy Director Nasir Uddin submitted a primary report about the irregularities to the commission a few days ago.He also recommended for serving notices to the former minister and his family members asking them to submit wealth statements to the commission. The commission may approve sending of notices shortly, sources said.According to affidavit submitted by the former minister to the Election Commission in 2008, he had wealth worth of Tk 10.33 lakh, increasing to Tk 11.3 crore in 2013. In the same way, he quoted Tk 3.85 lakh as his yearly income in 2008, rising to Tk 3.28 crore in five years, transpiring increase by 103 times. On February 27, ACC interrogated him in its head quarters about his source of income. While leaving the ACC office, Abdul Mannan Khan told the newsmen that he did not accumulate wealth or part thereof dishonestly.On January 12, the commission decided to look into the accumulation of wealth of seven former and incumbent ministers and MPs as per reports published in several newspapers. On January 21, it assigned its officials to investigate the matter. The other former and present ministers and MPs are Professor Dr A F M Ruhal Haque, former Health and Planning Minister, Mahbubur Rahman, former State Minister for Water and Resources, Enamul Haque, former MP from Rajshahi-4 Constituency, Abdul Jabbar, former MP from a Constituency of Satkhira, Abdur Rahman Bodi, MP from Chittagong Constituency-4 [Ukhia-Tecnaf] and Aslamul Haque, MP from Dhaka Constituency-14.
