BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’a lawyer Barrisster Jamiruddin Sircar yesterday claimed that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) failed to prove any allegation of graft against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases and sought justice for his client.
Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar on Thursday told the Special Judge Court-5 of Dhaka that Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) failed to prove any allegation of graft against Begum Khaleda Zia while placing the defence argument in the makeshift court at Bakshibazar in the old city in the Zia Orphanage Trust Graft case.
Jamiruddin Sircar concluded his defence argument on Thursday afternoon saying, “Khaleda Zia seeks justice, deliver her a true justice.”
Judge Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman adjourned the argument hearing for Thursday and decided to hear rest of the arguments on January 16, 17 and 18.
Zamir Uddin Sircar who is also leader of BNP reminded the court about democracy, rule of law and justice and said “The false cases were filed against Khaleda Zia during 1/11 only for political reason to interrupt her political career.”
On July 3, 2008, the ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case with Ramna Model Police Station accusing Khaleda Zia, her son Tarique Rahman, and four others for embezzling over Tk 21 million that came as grants from a foreign bank for orphans.
Besides, the anti-corruption watchdog on August 8, 2011, lodged the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Model Police Station accusing four persons, including Khaleda Zia, of abuse of power in raising funds for the trust from unknown sources.
