The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday submitted chargesheets in two cases over railway graft dropping the name of suspended general manager of Bangladesh Railway (East) Yusuf Ali Mridha.
Two ACC assistant directors (Dhaka region) submitted the chargesheets before the court of chief metropolitan magistrate Mashiur Rahman Chowdhury on Sunday.
ACC assistant directors SM Rashedur Reza and Mohamamd Kamruzzaman submitted the chargesheets in the two cases over irregularities in appointing assistant loco master and inspector.
ACC public prosecutor Mahmudul Haque said the ACC submitted the chargesheets against 32 accused, including senior welfare officer Golam Kibria and additional chief mechanical engineer Hafizur Rahman.
The widespread irregularities and corruption in the railway recruitment came to light when Tk 7 million, reportedly collected from job seekers, was found in the car of former Railways Minister Suranjit Sengupta’s assistant personal secretary Omar Faruq Talukder
after it was stopped at Border Guard Bangladesh’s Peelkhana headquarters in the wee hours of Apr 9, 2012.
Yusuf Ali Mridha was also in the car. Later, Mridha was suspended while Talukder sacked. Amid constant media reports and pressure from the opposition and civil society members, Suranjit resigned later over the issue.
On April, 17, 2013, ACC assistant director Kamruzzaman filed a case over irregularities in appointing inspector with Kotwali Police Station.
