The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested Mostafizur Rahman, a former director of Bangladesh Coast Guard from Dhaka’s Mirpur area on Monday morning.
According to the ACC, Mostafizur Rahman was arrested in a graft case filed in 1998.
The ACC also arrested Commodore (retd) Shafiq-ur-Rahman, a former Director General (DG) of the coast guard in the same case on 29 September this year.
Five people, including former Coast Guard DG and director, were sued with the city’s Cantonment Police Station for
swindling millions of taka by selling government’s allotted wheat.
According to the case statement, under a rural infrastructure reformation project, Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief had allotted 11,100 metric tonnes of wheat to the coast guard.
But the former DG sold out the allotted wheat defying prohibitions of selling government’s wheat. He then sold the wheat at a very low price for Tk 5 per kilogram when its price was Tk 11.64 in the local market.
In this way, the accused had reportedly swindled around Tk 8 crore.
