Academicians have suggested inclusion of Bangabandhu’s March 7 speech in textbooks at all levels of education to facilitate the new generation to know extensively about the world famous speech that inspired the nation to wage a war for independence in 1971.
“The landmark speech of Bangabandhu should be included in the textbooks from secondary to higher levels of education so that the new generation get the opportunity to know the greatness and bravery of the greatest Bangalee of all times,” eminent educationist Prof Emeritus Anisuzzaman told BSS on Thursday.
Echoing this suggestion, former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique said Bangabandhu’s 7th March fiery speech itself is a great textbook and there is the necessity to teach the youths in classrooms the background and aftermaths of the historic event.
“I believe it is a must to present the historic speech before the new generation again and again. This speech should be included in textbooks comprehensively with ins and outs of the historic event at every level of education and this should be taught in classrooms,” Arefin, also a noted communicologist and a teacher of DU Mass Communication and Journalism Department, suggested.
He said if that is done, Bangabandhu’s philosophy and personality could be disseminated before the youths, generations after generations, through this speech. “The UNESCO has realised this thing and that is why it has included the speech in the Memory of the World International Register, a list of world’s important documentary heritage maintained by the UN organisation,” he added.
Prof Arefin said the human civilization has come to the current form after passing thousands of years and many human beings have contributed to bring the civilization to its modern form.
“Among the contributions of many great human beings, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s speech has a huge role in the emancipation of the deprived, distressed, persecuted and repressed people,” he said.
But, the noted communocologist said, Bangabandhu’s assassins had kept the nation in dark about the landmark 7th March speech since August 15, 1975 until June 23, 1996 when her illustrated daughter Sheikh Hasina had formed government following a victory in 1996 general elections.
