A section of students of Chittagong University went on an indefinite strike on Sunday to press home their five-point demand, including immediate arrest of the accused in the case filed over the death of BCL leader Irfan Chowdhury Diaz.
The followers of murdered Diaj Irfan Chowdhury, central joint secretary of the central committee of BCL and former joint secretary of Chittagong University (CU) committee, declared indefinite blockade program from yesterday demanding the proper investigation and punishment of the killers of Diaj. They cut the hose pipe of shuttle train in the morning causing stoppage of shuttle train movement towards CU. The agitated students also ransacked the shuttle train at Sholoshahar rail station.
The Station Master of Sholoshahar Rail Station Mohammed Shahabuddin said yesterday, “The miscreants cut the hose pipe of shuttle train this morning. So, no shuttle trains had started for CU today.” He further said, “it is difficult to continue shuttle train to CU due to the attack of miscreants and students.” However, another group of students ransacked the vehicles including baby taxies and rickshaws at Cut Hill area at CU in the morning yesterday.
The agitated students brought out processions on the campus and blocked the roads. They blocked the entrance of CU and all vehicles to CU. The agitated students also demanded to suspend the accused of Diaj murder case accused Assistant Proctor of CU Anwar Hossain immediately. They placed five-point demand including the proper investigation and punishment of the killers, immediate suspension of Anwar Hossain and ensuring the safety of students at CU etc. Assistant Proctor of CU Helal Uddin said, the agitated students ransacked the vehicles including baby taxies and rickshaws in the Cut Hill area at CU.
They brought out processions at the campus and blocked the roads. However, police rushed to the spot and controlled the situation. Now, the environment of CU is peaceful and normal.” Mystery shrouded over the killing of the Diaj Irfan Chowdhury. Sources said, two cases were filed in connection with mysterious death Diaj Irfan Chowdhury. Police filed an UD case in connection with the death who was found hanged on November 19 last. The postmortem report confirmed that BCL leader Diaj Irfan Chowdhury’s death was a case of suicide.
Family members of the victim and followers of Diaj rejected the postmortem report and said that it was a conspiracy to divert the murder case into different way. Jaheda Amin, mother of Diaj, filed a case before the court.
