DU Correspondent :
Academic Committee of Dhaka University (DU)’s Music Department has recommended to relieve Anamul Haque, an assistant Prof of the department, from all academic activities for one years on charge of sexual harassment.
“We have gathered primarily evidence supporting the allegation of sexual harassment against the teacher,” AC said.
The decision was taken in a meeting presided over Prof Dr Debproshad Dawn, Chairman of the department, on August 17. Prof Dawn confirmed the matter to The New Nation on Friday.
But, the general students are not satisfied with the committee’s recommendation. The students of the department lodged a memorandum
with the Chairman suspending the teacher permanently.
Anamul Haque allegedly proposed an unethical relationship at a resort to one of his students over the phone. The committee recommended the punishment based on a phone record, as per sources.
“Most of the members have opined in favour of relieving the teacher from all academic activities of the department as we got authenticity of the allegation”, said Prof Dr Debproshad Dawn.
“The student submitted memorandum for suspending the teacher permanently. The AC will sit again on Sunday and the higher authorities of the university will take further decision on the matter,” he added.
