‘Abuse of ICT Act undesirable’

Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar on Wednesday branded the abusing of ICT Act as undesirable.
“It is true that the “Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act is being abused in different cases. It is totally undesirable and everyone should show respect to the freedom of speech and must to avoid abuse of any rule,” the minister said it while addressing a dialogue with media at the secretariat in the capital organised by Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum.
Replying to a query about harassing journalists, politicians and rights activists using the ICT act, the minister said, that he has drowned the attention of the Home Minister about abusing right of expressions using the act.
The minister said also that the country witnessed an era of revaluation on digitalisation.
Describing successes on digitalisation the minister said the country will start 5G services soon.
“We will start 5G services through Teletalk mobile phone as a test very soon. All preparations have to be taken. The first test services of 5G would be started from different high-tech parks in the country,” the minister said.
Referring to misuses and spreading misinformation using digital technology through social media, the minister said we have capability to suspend facebook and youtube anytime.
“But I never like to cut head for preventing headache. We have to discuss the authorities of those social media and let them understand our anxiety over its misuse. I think they would assist us in this field,” the minister said.
The minister said that the country had achieved great success in digitalisation platform.
“But we have to create a digital highway now. We are working for this,” he said.  
Mustafa Jabbar also highlighted the importance of digital security saying the without adequate security of personal and official information and financial resources, the digitalisation means a hazardous.
The minister said, we have to achieve knowledge on robotics and artificial intelligence.
It has to be clear that robot or any equipment cannot be alternative of human.
Creativity is the big power of human which the robot or equipment have not.
“We must use the technology not for replacing people from jobs, but to use those in different sectors,” Mustafa Jabbar said.
He said no one in the world thought of that the once ‘bottomless basket Bangladesh’ can export software abroad.
Now, Bangladesh is exporting mobile phone set and different digital equipment in foreign countries.
The minister asked all especially to youths of the country to be prepared for taking opportunity of fourth industrial revolution through ICT knowledge.
