Huge quantity of Hilsa fish are pouring in the fishery market of the port city from the sources of fishing boats and fishermen of Karnaphuli river and the coastal areas of Chittagong.
The catching of Hilsa fish overcomed the previous years by this current season . Passing the off season of hilsa catching in last two or three years , the desired hilsa catching experiences this year, fish hoarders sources said. The fishery department sources said catchingof hilsa fish exceeds all previous records this year and hilsa fishes are available with cheaper price than earlier.
Professor of Marine Sciece and Fisheries Institute of Chittagong Universtiy Prof. Dr.Saidu rRahman told the media that recorded hilsa fishes were caught from the Chittagong coast in 1998 and after one and half decades , the fishing recorded survived this year.
According to the sources of District fishery offices, 1000 metric tons hilsa catched in 2012, 6207 metric tons catched in 2013, 1,952 tons in 2014 and 2,300 tons in 2015 and all previous recorded will be overcome this year.
10 pirates held with hijacked Hilsa fish : Patenga thana police of CMP rounded up ten pirates alongwith 10 maunds of hilsa fish loaded in a fishing boat from Patenga coast area .
Police also detained the fishing boat. Sub Inspector of Patenga thana Monir Hossain told that an organized gang of pirates used to hijack Hilsa fish forcibly from the fishing boats from the estuary of Bay and Karnaphuli river since long.This piracy gang members were caught red handed at No.15 ghat of Patenga early morning yesterday while selling the hijacked fishes alongwith boat.
The detained pirates identified as Mir Kashem, Abdur Rashid , Rubel, Alamgir, Yahya, Salek, Khokan, Babul, Jahirul Islam and Manik. Police sources said patenga thana police and coast guards were trying to round up these pirates since long. Police is searching the owner of the boat, sources said.
