Xinhua, Dubai :
Abu Dhabi inflation increases to 3.9 percent in the first three months of 2018, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) state news agency WAM reported on Sunday.
Figures from Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi (SCAD) revealed that consumer inflation during the first quarter of 2018 was driven mainly by the transport group, which increased by 10 percent, contributing 35.7 percent of the overall increase in the consumer price index.
As the price of oil (Brent) increased to 75 U.S. dollars per barrel (159 liters) in early April, petrol prices increased as well, as in August 2015, the UAE, a major oil supplier, cut state subsidies for petrol.
SCAD added that a key contributor to the rise in consumer prices were food and beverage. This group of consumer items accounted for 15.7 percent of the overall increase in the inflation rate during the first three months of 2018, compared with the same period of 2017, reflecting a 5.3 percent surge in the group’s prices.
