Sagar Biswas :Police could not make any headway to rescue Abu Bakar Siddique, husband of Syeda Rizwana Hasan, the chief executive of Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers’ Association [BELA], though 48 hours have been elapsed in the meantime after his abduction. Apparently, the law enforcers are searching a needle in the haystack to find ‘clue’ behind the abduction while the home ministry officials said they could not yet ascertain the ‘motive’ behind the abduction till the time of filing of this report Thursday evening.”We are yet to know the motive behind the abduction. However, we have asked the Inspector General of Police [IGP] to carry out a coordinated drive with the help of police, RAB and the intelligence agencies so that Abu Bakar Siddique could be rescued,” said State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan. The law enforcers were fooled yesterday when the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority disclosed that the number plate of suspected microbus [Chittagong Metro Ga-17-8327] used for kidnapping as fake. Earlier, the police collected the vehicle’s number seeing the still pictures of the footage found in the close circuit camera installed at Mayor Hanif Flyover.Senior security officials have also admitted that it was an incident of ‘pre-planned abduction’ where some ‘skilled professionals’ took part. The case of abduction has been appeared as a ‘clueless’ crime after the number plate was proved fake, they said. “Its not a simple case of abduction. The abductors are highly skilled and professional. They made this operation in a pre-planned way. We are also examining in the laboratory what kind of chemical they had spread on the victim and his driver during the operation,” said Syeed Nurul Islam, Superintendent of Police of Narayanganj.”The vehicle carrying the victim crossed the flyover at 2:53 pm Wednesday. We suspect, the vehicle was going towards Dhaka and it is still in the area. We have set up numerous check posts in different strategic points. It is hard for anyone to cross the check posts dodging police surveillance,” the SP added. In this backdrop, the police headquarters formed a high-powered five-member committee headed by Additional Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Maruf Hassan yesterday evening to supervise the rescue operation of the abducted Abu Bakar Siddique. Other members of the committees are: Joint Commissioner of Detective and Criminal Intelligence Division of DMP Monirul Islam, Major Md Siddiqur Rahman of RAB-3, Additional Superintendent of Police [SP] of Narayanganj Md Sajjadur Rahman and Additional SP of police headquarters Abdul Mannan. Siddique, an executive director of Hamid Fashion in Narayanganj, was abducted by a gang of miscreants near Bhuiya Filling Station in Fatulla when he [Siddique] was alone in his car. The abductors sprayed powder [probably chilli ] in driver’s eyes and hit his head with pistol-butt, and took away the victim at gunpoint.Rizwana yesterday separately met senior officials of police, RAB, DB and DGFI to communicate her views about the incident where she reportedly expressed her suspicion about the involvement of some of her professional rivals with the kidnapping.Rizwana also informed the security officials that though nobody demanded ransom for her abducted husband, she had received two mysterious phone calls, which are now under tracking of IT department of police. Official sources said, several teams of police along with the members of different intelligence agencies, including Detective and Criminal Intelligence Division and RAB Intelligence Wing are conducting drives to rescue the kidnapped person. Besides, two powerful intelligence agencies, National Security Intelligence [NSI] and Directorate of General Forces Intelligence [DGFI], have also activated their strings to collect advance information to unearth the mystery behind the daylight operation, the sources added.
