About three thousand children were registered at grass root level child registration centers in Barisal for preserving facts to ensure children’s rural to urban safe migration and prevent trafficking and abuse.
Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association (BNWLA) Barisal unit, holding a press conference at Barisal Reporters Unity on Saturday noon, revealed this fact.
Masuk Kamal, area coordinator, Advocate Qamrunnahar, project member, Alfazur Rahman, facilitator, of Rural Urban Child Migration Project (RUCMP) of BNWLA Barisal answered the questions of the journalists in the press conference.
The BNWLA persons said the project is given financial assistance of European Union and Save the Children International.
They opened child registration centers at grass root level for preserving facts opened and started functioning in ward 9 and 10 of Barisal City Corporation and four unions Chandra Mohon, Charkawa, Tungibaria and Charbaria unions of Barisal Sadar upazila to ensure children’s rural to urban safe migration and prevent trafficking and abuse .
Computerized child registration cell functioning at these local government units for issuing a numbered registration card containing photo and full description of the child-employee with his family, education and health back grounds, Masuk Kamal told.
A copy of the card would be checked and preserved by the employer and collected data would be preserved on the computer network and provided to all who needs with regular monitoring, Advocate Qamrunnahar explained.
They said already 2,960 children registered in these centers under this programme equipped with online databases.
Project officials told that 2,183 children aged 5-17 years and under risk of migration from the unions of Chandramohon, Tungibaria, Charkawa and Charbaria union of Barisal Sadar upazila and 777 children from ward 9 and 10 of BCC already registered in database and 2250 would be given identity card with photo under this programme
within this month.
It was learnt that online registration, database, identity card will help the parents and children to enjoy safe migration and local government organizations to properly address child rights violation.
Stake holders opined that after birth registration, children after migration from rural to urban areas became missing and victimized to torture, abuse and trafficking. Now this child registration will make her free from tension about recovery of her children even after missing, project officials placing facts told.
