A 15-day photography exhibition titled ‘Climate Migrants in Bangladesh’ by Abir Abdullah is going on at La Galerie of Alliance Francaise de Dhaka (AFD) in the capital’s Dhanmondi area.
The exhibition was inaugurated on November 12. Embassy of France
in Bangladesh’s Chargé d’Affairs Guillaume Audren de Kerdrel, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Bangladesh Chairman Prof Dr Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Agence France-Presse (AFP) Dhaka Bureau Chief Shafiqul Alam, German-Bangladesh Economic Forum (GBEF) Chairman Daniel Seidl attended the inaugural ceremony as the special guests. A total of 34 photographs are being showcased at the exhibition. Abir Abdullah is a documentary photographer of the country. Abir photographs the people around him, whose stories have moved him in some way. He has spent the last few years documenting communities in Bangladesh that have been most affected by climate change. He has won many awards including the prestigious Mother Jones International Fund for Documentary Photography for his photo essay on Bangladeshi freedom fighters. He is also the winner of the Alexia Foundation professional grant, 2013 and won the Leica prize in the Vevey International Photography Awards. The exhibition will be open to all from 3:00pm to 9:00pm till November 26. The exhibition will remain closed on Sunday.
