Abhijit Mukherjee calls on Speaker

Visiting Indian Lok Sabha Member and Indian President Pronob Mukherjee’s son Abhijit Mukherjee on Saturday called on Jatiya Sangsad Speaker and Chairperson of the Executive Committee of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhruy at her office at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban here.
Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Muhammad Faruque Khan MP, Whip Iqbalur Rahim MP and Begum Mahjabin Khaled MP, among others, were present.
During the call on, they discussed parliament and parliamentary procedures of both the countries, expansion of women leadership, expansion of trade and commerce, launching of border hat, development of communication system at the border areas, enhancement of opportunity of practising Bangla language by poet and litterateurs of the two countries and enhancement of research activities on Bengali language.
“The culture, language and behavior particularly of the people of West Bengal of India and Bangladesh is same, said Indian Lok Sabha member Abhijit Mukherjee, adding that the relationship between the people of two countries would be developed through enhancing trade and commerce between the two countries.”
Abhijit laid emphasis on launching more border hats at the border areas adjacent to north-west region of Bangladesh along with development of communication system at the border areas.
The visiting Indian lawmaker also called for enhancing joint research for development of the Bengali language and creating opportunity of combined practice of the language among poets and litterateurs of both the countries.
Terming the bond of friendship between Bangladesh and India as historical, Abhijit saidthe relationship between the two countries is being strengthened by regular exchange of visits by lawmakers of the two countries.
Abhijit also praised the overall development of Bangladesh and construction of Padma bridge with their own financial resource.
Highlighting very excellent bilateral relation of Bangladesh with India, the Speaker Shirin Sharmin said “India is providing cooperation in all spheres including trade, commerce and investment.
She emphasized on enhancing more cooperation in future between the people of two countries in this regard.
Speaker said the history of Indian parliamentary democracy is age-old and it is very rich, adding that Bangladesh has also developed in this regard.
The mutual cooperation and friendly relation between Bangladesh and India would increase more in future, the Speaker hoped.
