The Anti-Corruption Commission summoned 11 engineers including suspended Additional Chief Engineer Utpal Kumar Dey of Public Works Department (PWD) for allegedly abetting controversial contractor GK Shamim in getting tenders and amassing huge illegal wealth.
ACC Director Sayed Iqbal Hossain sent the letter to PWD’s chief engineer to ensure their appearance.
They are asked to appear before the ACC on December 18, 19 and 23.
On October 20, the ACC filed a case against SM Golam Kibria Shamim and his mother for their alleged involvement in accumulation of illegal wealth worth Tk 297 crore.
Bangladesh government initiated the drive against illegal moneymakers on September 18. Rapid Action Battalion members on September 20 arrested Shamim on charges of extortion and tender manipulation. His seven bodyguards were also arrested at the same time.
On September 26, Shamim and his bodyguards were shown arrested in a money laundering case.
The elite force raided his house and office in the city’s Niketan and seized eight firearms, a huge amount of ammunition, fixed deposit receipt (FDR) worth Tk 165 crore, around Tk 1.8 crore in cash, a large stash of US and Singaporean dollars and some foreign liquor.
