A gang of hoodlums tortured a trader after abducting him from Natungaon area in the district Sadar on Sunday.
The victim is Makbul Hossain Dewan, 40, Secretary of Munshiganj Apex Club, son of Zahir Uddin Dewan of Noyagaon Pashchimpara area in the upazila.
Police sources said, a gang of thugs led by alleged local drug trader Monna attacked the trader around 12pm after he refused to give them TK 10 Lakhs as extortion money.
At one stage, the gang members picked him up and brought him to a desolated under-construction building and thrashed him severely with iron rod.
The abductors also forced the trader for the wills of his land properties.
On information, police members rescued Makbul from the groundfloor of the building and caught two of the miscreants-Monna, 35 and Sumon, 30– red-handed.
Makbul was first admitted to Munshiganj Genaral Hospital and moved to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Later in the evening, brother of the victim Monir Hossain filed a case accusing nine in the evening.
Munshiganj Police Super Mohammad Zayedul Alam said drives will be on to arrest all involved.
