A young man, who was chained and bundled inside a sack, has been rescued in Meherpur three months after his abduction.
Police rescued Mojnu Miah from Bamundi Majher Math area on Tuesday after being informed by locals about the sack. Mojnu was then
admitted to Huda Clinic. He was taken home later at night.
He is a resident of Chorgoyal village at Bamundi Union under Gangni Upazila. Mojnu went missing on December 18 last year, said Gangni Police Station OC Masudul Alam. The victim told bdnews24.com some people had picked him up on a motorcycle that evening.
They blindfolded him and kept changing his locations keeping him in many houses with his hands and legs tied.
A relative of Mojnu said the abductors had released him on payment of a ransom of Tk 200,000. But his father denied it. The relative, on condition of anonymity, said the abductors had demanded Tk 200,000 from Mojnu’s family and threatened to kill him if the money was not paid.
As the family took time to pay, the captors tortured Mojnu. They finally released him after getting the ransom, the relative said. Mojnu’s father Kutub Uddin said they had filed a general diary with the Gangni police on Dec 19. He said the villagers after seeing something moving inside the sack had informed police.
Police opened the sack and rescued Mojnu, his father said. Mojnu had fallen sick due to starvation and torture. He is undergoing treatment to recover, Kutub Uddin said. Dr. Nurul Huda of Huda Clinic said Mojnu was still shivering, unable to get over the trauma and panic.
