Police rescued a 9-year-old boy from a house in Kanchshar village of Kaliganj upazila in Lalmonirhat on Saturday, five days after being abducted from Chapainawabganj.
The rescued boy was identified as Jaynal Abedin Jihadi, son of Abul Hayat hailing from Kacharipara area of the Sadar upazila of Chapainawabganj.
Officer-in-Charge of Chapainawabganj Sadar Model Police Station Saber Reza Ahmmed said Jihadi was abducted on January 7 by Mahbub Alam, son of Azahar Ali of Manchshar village, who then demanded Tk 60,000 from Abul Hayat as ransom.
Being informed, the police started rescue work and traced Jihadi to the kidnapper’s residence in Lalmonirhat, he added.
According to the OC, Mahbub built up a friendship with Jihadi’s family over the phone about two years ago and kidnapped the boy while visiting the family on January 7.
