Staff Reporter :Mirza Abbas, Dhaka City Convener of BNP, on Friday collected nomination papers for mayoral contest in the forthcoming election of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). His lawyers Advocate AKM Shahjahan collected the nomination form from the office of the returning officer at around 11am on his behalf, while Advocate Abdus Salam Azad and Advocate Mohiuddin Ahmed were also with him.BNP’s International Affairs Secretary Asaduzzaman Ripon also collected nomination form for the post of DSCC Mayor. Advocate Jillur Rahman bought the nomination paper on behalf of Ripon at around 3:35pm. ‘Mirza Abbas expressed his desire to contest the DSCC polls and we have collected the form on his behalf,’ Abdus Salam Azad said.Abbas, a former minister, was the Mayor of the undivided Dhaka City Corporation in the early 1990s. Though, BNP is yet to confirm its participation in the city corporation polls, some other BNP leaders also collected nomination papers for the Mayoral post. Besides, BNP’s Economic Affairs Secretary Abdus Salam and Assistant Organising Secretary Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu also collected their nominations. Pintu is currently in prison. Abdul Awal Mintoo, an adviser to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, has collected his nomination as Mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).The elections of Dhaka and Chittagong city corporations are scheduled to be held on April 28, while the deadline for the submission of nomination papers is March 29.
