A court here on Wednesday relieved 18 people, including BNP leader Mirza Abbas, from an arson case filed with Ramna Police Station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Quamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order after accepting the chargesheet placed by the police in the case. BNP leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Amanullah Aman and
Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon were among those relieved from the case.
The court accepted chargesheet against BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and seven others in the case. Besides, the court issued warrants for the arrest of three absconding BNP and Jamaat men.
On December 25, 2013, police constable Md Ferdous was burnt alive while two other constables suffered burn injuries as unidentified criminals set a police vehicle on fire by pouring petrol at the capital’s Bangla Motor intersection. Later, Nazmul Islam, Sub-Inspector of the police station, filed a case against 26 people, including Mirza Fakhrul and Mirza Abbas.
Of the 26 accused, 18 were relieved from the case, while five secured bail and three remained absconding.
