Abahani Limited won the battle of prestige as they recorded a hard-fought solitary goal win over their arch-rival Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited in the Bangladesh Premier Football League on Sunday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.In the day’s match, Ghanaian forward Osie Morrison scored the all-important goal for the winning side in the first half of the match.Abahani Limited found the net in the 17th minute as Mohammedan defender Mintu Sheikh failed to clear a regulation cross of Abahani right back Atikur Rahman Mishu and Ghanaian forward Osie Morrison fired home with a controlled right footer (1-0).Mohammedan SC came close to scoring in the 20th minute as forward Wahed Ahmed tried long ranger. However, defender M Sujon headed the ball away.Abahani Limited missed scoring chance in the 36th minute as Mishu curved a cross from the right flank and Touhidul Alam dived forward heading the ball, Mohammedan goalie Mamun Khan saved the ball for a penalty.Mohammedan midfielder Vincent Hemanta Biswas saw his well- judge shot sailed harmlessly over the crosspiece in the 65th minute.Abahani Limited failed to double the lead in the 87th minute as Nahidul Islam brought Abahani’s Osie Morrison down in the left edge of the box and it was a penalty. However Cameroonian midfielder Yoko Samnik failed to convert the spot kick.Osie Morrison must consider him as unlucky as he missed an open net chance in the dying moment of the match.With the day’s win, Abahani improved their tally with 10 points from four matches while Mohammedan remained at their previous collection of five from same number of matches.
