Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League Liton and Karthik hit centuries: Abahani vanquish Mohammedan by 260 runs

Abahani notched a massive 260-run victory over Mohammedan Sporting Club in the super-six 2nd round battle of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP) Ground-3 on Wednesday.
Liton Kumar Das and Dinesh Karthik hammered century each for Abahani scoring 139 and 109 runs respectively.
In the day’s match, replying to a formidable 371/5, Mohammedan finished the innings at 111 for all in 24.3 overs.
Skipper Naeem Islam scored run-a-ball-32 while Tigers Test skipper Mushfiqur Rahim (26), Ariful Haque (17) and Emon Ahmed (11) were the other double figure scorers for Mohammedan.
Shakib Al Hasan destroyed Mohammedan’s batting line dismissing five wickets for economic 18 runs in 6.3 overs.
Mosaddek Hossain and Saqlain Sajib bagged two wickets for 12 and 27 runs respectively.
Sent in to bat first, Abahani scored a huge 371 for 5 in 50 overs, spurred by Liton and Karthik’s centuries.
Liton featured 18 boundaries and one six facing 125 balls for his century of 139 and was adjudged man of the match. He was bowled out by Ariful Haque at 226/3 in 38.2 overs.
Karthik fired 11 boundaries and four sixes off 97 balls for 109 before being caught by Nazmul Hossain Milon off Ariful Haque bowling at 327/4 in 47 overs.
Shakib Al Hasan was another notable scorer with 57 off 24 balls that included two boundaries and five sixes, was caught by Habibur Rahman off Naeem Islam delivery at 339/5 in 47.3 overs.
Besides, their individual performance, Liton and Karthik contributed 162 in 25 overs in the 3rd wicket stand. The 3rd paired started from 64/2 in 13.2 overs and ended with Liton’s departure at 226/3 in 38.2 overs.
After Liton, Shakib came to crease and stay with Karthik for another partnership figure of 101 in 8.4 overs in the 4th stand. The 4th pair started from 226/3 in 38.2 overs that ended up at 327/4 in 47 overs with Karthik’s dismissal.
Skipper Tamim Iqbal out for 22 while Mosaddek Hossain and Abul Hasan added not out 19 and 12.
Including the one of the biggest margin victory in the league on Wednesday, Abahani collected 16 points from 12 matches, having eight wins, and moved to 3rd in the points table pushing down Mohammedan in the bottom-six slot, the side collected 14 from 13 matches
This is Abahani’s five successive victories in the league, sans abandoned one against Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club at BKSP-3 on Sunday.
However, in their previous encounter in the 1st phase of the league Abahani outplayed Mohammedan by 8 wickets.
