DPL Cricket: Abahani retain 2nd slot beating Brothers by 69 runs

Abahani Ltd retained the second slot beating Brothers Union by 69 runs in a 9th round, curtailed over match of the Walton Dhaka Metropolis Premier Division Cricket League (DPL) at Khan Saheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah on Sunday.
After the 9th round matches, Prime Bank Cricket Club earned 16 points with eight win and a single loss to secure the top slot while Abahani Ltd remained in the second position securing identical 14 points with Kalabagan Cricket Academy (seven win and two loss) by virtue of net run rate. Defending champions Legends of Rupganj is in 6th place bagging 10 points with five win and four loss.
In the day’s fog-interrupted match, sent in to bat first, Abahani scored 191 runs for 9 wickets in curtailed 42 overs riding on an opening partnership of 84 runs in 15.5 overs by Liton Kumar and Abdul Majid.
Liton Kumar scored team highest 40 runs off 42 balls with seven fours while Abdul Majid scored 37 runs off 63 balls with five fours.
Number nine Saqlain Sajib scored not out 31 runs of 26 balls with three sixes while number five Nasir Hossain (26), Nazmul Apu (22) and Hamilton Masakadza (14) were the other double digit scorers for Abahani.
Denly Joseph Liam grabbed three wickets for 19 runs in 6 overs while Younus and Asif Hasan took two wickets for 31 and 52 runs respectively in 8 and 9 overs.
Set 192 runs to win, Brothers Union were all out for 122 in 41.2 overs.
Avishek Mitra scored team highest 25 runs off 35 balls with four fours while Asif Hasan (21), Denly Joseph Liam (19), Yasir Ali Chowdhury (16) and Jabid Hossain (not out15) were the other double digit scorers for Brothers Union.
Nasir Hossain grabbed three wickets for 15 runs in 8 overs while Saqlain Sajib and Nazmul Apu took two wickets each for 20 and 25 runs respectively, both bowled 9 overs.
Kalabagan CA vs Kalabagan KC
In the day’s other match, Kalabagan Cricket Academy beat Kalabagan Krira Chakra by 37 runs at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
Batting first after winning the toss, Kalabagan Cricket Academy scored 215 for all in 49.2 overs, thanks to a 6th wicket partnership of 92 runs in 17.2 overs by Sabbir Rumman and Mehedi Hasan Miraz.
Number six Sabbir Rumman smashed a half-century scoring 73 runs off 67 balls with six fours and two sixes.
Mehedi Hasan Miraz was the second highest scorer with 31 runs off 51 balls that included three fours while Mahmudul Hasan (21), Imtiaz Hossain (18), Phil Mustard (16) and Irfaan Sukkur (12) were the other double digit scorers Kalabagan CA.
Nasum Ahmed and Abdur Razzak grabbed three wickets each for 36 and 40 runs respectively in 10 and 9.2 overs.
Replying to 215 runs, Kalabagan Krira Chakra were all out for 178 in 45.4 overs.
Number five Tasamul Haque made an unbeaten half-century scoring 60 runs off 89 balls with five fours and a six.
Opening batsman Nasiruddin Faroque scored 32 runs off 51 balls with three fours while Abdur Razzak (24), Jupitar Ghosh (18) and Shamsur Rahman (15) were the other double digit scorers for Kalabagan KC.
Imtiaz Hossain grabbed three wickets for 24 runs in 4 overs while Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Bishwant Halder took two wickets each for 19 and 41 runs respectively in 9.4 and 9 overs.
Victoria SC vs Old DOHS SC
Meanwhile, in the curtailed 34-over match due to fog at BKSP-3 in Savar, Victoria Sporting Club beat Old DOHS Sports Club by 6 wickets.
Batting first after winning the toss, Old DOHS Sports Club scored 159 runs for 6 wickets in 34 overs.
Skipper Nihaduzzaman smashed unbeaten half-century scoring 54 runs off 43 balls with a four and a six.
Number four Ahasanul Haque scored 35 runs off 59 balls with three fours while Joyraj Sheikh Emon (22), Shajib (13) and Rubel Mia (11) were the other double digit scorers for the side.
Abu Haydar and Marjan Bhuiyan grabbed tow wickets each for 26 and 27 runs respectively, both bowled 7 overs. Enamul Hoque and Kamrul Islam took one wicket apiece for 34 and 36 runs respectively in 5 and 7 overs.
Chasing 160 runs for win, Victoria SC easily reached their target scoring 161 runs for 4 wickets in 28.3 overs, riding on 124 runs in 20 overs in the opening stand between Mahabubul Karim and Jasim Uddin.
Opener Mahabubul Karim smashed a half-century scoring 68 runs off 58 balls with nine fours and two sixes.
Jasim Uddin scored 48 runs off 66 balls with seven fours while Imrul Kayes (17) and Surhawordi Shuvo (not out 10) were the other double digit scorers for their side.
Joyraj Sheikh Emon took two wickets for 14 runs in 4.3 overs and Rubel Mia took one wicket 33 runs in 3 overs.
A minute’s silence was observed before the start of all the three matches to show respect to late cricketer Ahsan Zaheer who died on Saturday.
