Abahani Limited moved into the semifinal of the Walton Federation Cup Football Tournament eliminating Brothers Union Club by 2-1 goals in a hard fought 3rd quarterfinal at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Sunday.Abahani Limited will play Sheikh Russel KC in the 2nd semifinal on Friday at 3:45 pm while Arambagh KS will play the first semis on Thursday against the winners of Muktijoddha SKC and Team BJMC, who will meet each other on Monday.In the day’s crucial match, Brothers Union Club took the lead in the 36th minute as their midfielder Shofikul Islam Shofi floated a cross to Walson in the middle of the box and the Haitian booter placed the ball into the net by an angular shot (1-0)Walson again came close to scorer the 2nd goal for Brothers in the 39th minute by a long range effort but Abahani goalie Sohel made brilliant save denying the Haitian at the cost of a corner.Jewel Rana leveled the margin for Abahani in the 69th minute by a cool placing shot off a Lee Tuck curving a corner from the left hand flag that came his way by a Nabib Newaz Jibon headed (1-1)Sunday Chizoba scored the match winning goal for Abahani in the 80th minute by a header off a Lee Tuck cross that crossed the goal line despite the diving effort of opponent defender Abbas Inusah (2-1)Earlier, in the very 2nd minute of the match, Abahani’s English midfielder Lee Tuck swung a free kick from the right flank and forward Nabib Newaz Jibon carved out a powerful header but Brothers goalie Uttam Barua punched it for a corner.In the 9th minute, Abahani came close score when midfielder Emon Babu cut a nice through pass to Lee Tuck who found Uttam in one to one situation, but Lee took too much time allowing Uttam to close the gap and Lee put the ball straight into the lap of Uttam.Brothers also fought their way back in the 27th minute, Haitian forward Augustine Walson after a combined attack saw his first effort saved by the outstretched foot of goalie Sohel and the rebounder whistle past the sidepost.In the 30th minute Brothes missed the easiest chance of the game as Augustine Walson’s low cross split the Abahani defense and Mannaf Rabbi failed to tap the ball into the empty net.
