Sheikh Kamal, son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was murdered on August 15 in 1975 when a band of errant and misled military officers had brutally massacred Bangabandhu, the architect of independent Bangladesh along with his family, close relatives and personal staff.
Abahani Limited’s directors, officials, former national players and members of the Abahani Samorthak Gosthi began the programme by placing wreaths on the portrait of Sheikh Kamal in front of Abahani tent at 12.01 am.
Wreath was placed on behalf of the Abahani’s directors by Haroon-ur- Rashid, Kazi Enam Ahmed, Golam Rabbani Helal, Mir Nizamuddin Ahmed, club officials- KN haque Montu, Subhas Shom, Satayajit Das Rupu, Ahmed Sajjadul Alam Bobby, Sheikh Masud Iqbal, Mahabul Ahsan Rana, Awami League’s Sports Secretary Dewan Arefin Tutul, former player Sheikh Mohammad Aslam and office bearers, former players and members of Abahani Samorthak Ghosthhi.

It can me mention that Abahani holds record of winning almost all the introductory football tournaments or league trophies immediately after their inception, such as, the Liberation Cup, the Independence Cup, national football league and professional football league.
The Abahani club already has a glorious space in the country’s sports history. Since being founded 43 years ago by Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Father Of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Abahani club has so far won 15 football titles, 17 cricket silverwares, and 16 hockey trophies.
