Abahani Limited observed a various day-long programme in its club premise on Friday on the occasion of 67th birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The programme began with placing wreath at the portrait of the club’s founder Sheikh Kamal at 12.01 am Friday night and offered special prayer seeking his eternal peace and happiness, a day-long reciting from the Holy Quran, elaborate discussion and reminiscence of Kamal’s colorful working life, milad-mahfil and offering doa .
Kamal was one of the pioneers of modern football in Bangladesh and also founder-president of the country’s leading sporting club Abahani Krira Chakra.
Kamal used to play cricket in first division for Azad Boys Club and Basketball too in the first division for Spurs Club. He was also founder-member of Dhaka Theatre and Spondon Shilpa Gousthi, a popular musical band.
Besides, different political socio-cultural and sports organizations marked the day with various programmes in the capital and elsewhere across the country.
A doa-Mahfil was offered seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of him and other family members including Father of the Nation who were assassinated by a group of disgruntled army personnel on the fateful night of August 15 1975.
