UNB, Dhaka :Dhaka Abahani Ltd secured the second slot after the eight round matches of the Walton Dhaka Metropolis Premier Division Cricket League (DPL) beating Victoria Sporting Club by 8 wickets in a match at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday. After the eight round matches, Prime Bank Cricket Club tops the league table with 14 points (seven win and a loss) while Abahani followed with 12 points (six win and two losses). Abahani is ahead of Kalabagan Cricket Academy, placed third also with 12 points (six win and two losses), on the basis of net run rate. In the day’s match, replying to Victoria SC’s 159 runs, Abahani reached the target scoring 165 runs for 2 wickets in 46.2 overs with the opening stand partnership of Abdul Majid and Liton Kumar contributing 86 runs in 27.3 overs. Liton Kumar made a half-century scoring 54 runs off 67 balls with seven fours before being caught by Dhiman Ghosh off Marshall Ayub. Opener Abdul Majid made another half century scoring unbeaten 50 runs off 148 balls with two fours while number four Nasir Hossain (not out 30) and Rakibul Hasan (20) were the other notable scorers for Abahani. Marshall Ayub and Enamul Haque took one wicket each for 22 and 25 runs respectively in 4.2 and 10 overs. Earlier, sent into bat first, Victoria SC scored 159 for all in 48.2 overs. Number seven Sohrawordi Shuvo scored team highest 45 runs off 66 balls with six fours while opening batsman Imrul Kayes (31), Abu Hayder (20) and Dhiman Ghosh (18) were the other double digit scorers for Victoria SC. Nazmul Apu claimed four wickets for 14 runs 6.2 overs while Saqlain Sajib and Mostafizur Rahman took two wickets each for 16 and 33 runs respectively in 3 and 10 overs. In the day’s other match at BKSP-3 in Savar, Kalabagan Cricket Academy defeated Partex Sporting Club by 197 runs.Sent into bat first, Kalabagan CA scored a formidable 334 runs for 5 wickets in 50 overs with Anamul Haque, playing a captain’s knock, smashed a century scoring 113 runs off 104 balls with 11 fours and seven sixes. After losing two top order batsmen — Irfaan Sukkur (8) and Imtiaz Hossain (13) — for 22 runs in 7.1 overs, skipper Anamul Haque pairing with number four Mahmudul Hasan contributed 193 runs in 30.4 overs, before Anamul Haque was caught by Abdur Rahman off Azim at 215 for 3 in 37.3 overs.Mahmudul Hasan made a half-century scoring 70 runs off 87 balls with eight fours and a six, before being caught by Arman Hossain off Azim. Chasing a huge target of 335 runs, Partex Sporting Club folded their innings cheaply for 137 runs in 35.5 overs. Shafiul Alam scored team highest unbeaten 41 runs off 50 balls with six fours and a six while Robiul Islam Robi (35), Azim (14) and Rajin Saleh (12) were the other notable scorers for Partex SC. Bishwant Halder grabbed three wickets for 16 runs in 7 overs while Sharif took two wickets for 37 runs also in 7 overs. In another fixture at Khan Saheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah, Brothers Union beat Kalabagan Krira Chakra by 4 wickets.
