Dhaka Abahani notched a 5-2 victory over Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra in a 3rd leg match of the Nitol-Tata Bangladesh Premier Football League at Bangabandhu National Stadium on Saturday.
The win gave Abahani 49 points from 26 matches to maintain the 2nd slot. Sheikh Russel remained in the 6th position with 32 points also from 26 matches.
Abahani’s Ghanaian forward Osei Morrison made a hat-trick scoring in the 10th, 38th and 61st minute, while his compatriot midfielder Awudu Ibrahim netted 1 goal in the 23rd minute and forward Shahed added the other goal in the 50th minute.
Shakil and Sohel scored one goal each in the 17th and 88th minute respectively to reduce the margin for Sheikh Russel.
In the days other match, Chittagong Abahani beat Team BJMC by a solitary goal at MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong.
With this win, Ctg Abahani earned 25 points from 26 matches while Team BJMC bagged 27 points also from 26 matches.
After the barren first half, Ctg Abahani forward Ousman Cherif scored the match winning goal in the 74th minute of the match.
Earlier, on Tuesday’s match (July 15) Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club clinched the league title beating Dhaka Abahani 1-0 with two matches in hands at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Sheikh Jamal DC secured 58 points from 25 matches to clinch the title.
