Swashbuckling South African AB de Villiers has smashed the fastest ever one-day century in 31 balls against the West Indies at The Wanderers.
After coming to the wicket following a massive 247-run opening stand between Hashim Amla and Rilee Rossouw on Sunday, De Villiers compounded the tourist’ misery as he belted nine fours and 16 massive sixes.
He beat the previous record of 36 balls by New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson against West Indies last year.
The batsman also struck the fastest half century in the inngins, taking 16 balls to pass the milestone.
His record-breaking innings of 149 off just 44 balls ended when he hit straight to deep cover in the last over.
He flashed three fours and five massive sixes to beat the previous record of 17 balls by Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya against Pakistan in 1996.
South Africa posted 239 for 2 in 50 overs, their highest ODI total. They lead the five-match series 1-0 after a 69-run win in the opening game in Durban on Friday.
