The police headquarters (PHQ) in a press release on Saturday said that the government and state were willing and giving efforts to ensure justice to all rape victims, ‘but a vested group is aiming to manipulate the movements.’
It came up with the observation amid the countrywide protests against rapes, repressions, and sexual
assaults on women.
Many common people, civil society groups, and political parties are blaming the police inaction for the alarming rape situation. The protestors are also demanding immediate resignation of home minister Asaduzzaman Khan for ‘his failures in tacking rapes and other forms of sexual assaults’.
The police authorities said that they were acting professionally and sincerely to prevent rape incidents and prosecute the accused as widespread resentments are seen among youths and social media sphere amid some rape incidents.
“The police are investigating all the rape allegations with highest priority and sincerity. The investigation reports will be submitted to the court at the earliest time possible,” the lease added.
It also requested all to avoid anti-state activities in the name of anti-rape movements.
Two recent incidents of assault fuelled the protests across the country.
A video of a 37-year-old woman getting sexually assaulted and tortured by a group of youths in Begumganj upazila in Noakhali went viral on social media on October 4, nine days after a newly-wed woman had been gang-raped in MC College Hostel in Sylhet allegedly by the activists of Awami League’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League on September 25.
