Bangladesh police members are being infected with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) severely every day. A total of 3,235 police members got infected with coronavirus so far.
The deadly virus, so far, claimed 10 lives of the police men, said the sources in police headquarters.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has been hardest hit with 1277 personnel contracting the virus.
In the meantime, a total of 569 police members recovered from COVID-19 till Thursday.
Meanwhile, another cop’s member has died of Covid-19, taking the countrywide tally of police deaths from the virus to 10.
The victim has been identified as constable Md Mokhlesur Rahman from Tamta village of Chandpur who worked at Chittagong district police station, confirmed Sohel Rana, Assistant Inspector General (AIG media) of Police headquarters.
At present, 3,518 policemen are in quarantine while 1,256 are being treated at isolation units of different hospitals.
Members of Bangladesh Police, Armed forces, and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), along with other agencies have been working to ensure social distancing across the country.
On Thursday, the country reported the highest single-day spike in both coronavirus infections and deaths. Some 1773 people tested positive for the virus and 22 died.
With this, number of COVID-19 cases stood at 28,511 and the virus-related deaths 408 in the country.
