A record 111 nomination papers have been sold against 28 posts of the Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) election on the last day of nomination distribution on Sunday.
Former general secretary Sajed A Adel of Hockey Dhaka United collected the highest five nomination papers while Ahmed Ariful Hasan of Rayer Bazar SC and Tarek Ahmed Adel of Mukto Bihango collected four nomination papers each for contesting in the polls scheduled for August 27.
Probable general secretary candidates Khwaja Rahmatullah and Abdur Rashid Sikder collected two nomination papers each while seating general secretary Abdus Sadeque, now in China, bought one nomination paper through online.
Besides, four councilors collected three nomination papers each while 25 members bought two papers apiece and 36 members collected one paper each.
Out of 85 councilors, 68 members bought nomination papers and of them, 32 councilors bought more than one.
“The candidates who collected nomination papers, will submit their papers by 4:00 pm on Thursday,” said returning officer and also legal affairs officer of NSC SM Kabirul Hasan on Sunday.
The withdrawal of papers and disclosure of final candidates’ list is on August 23.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan Papon had a closed-door meeting separately with the representatives of two rival panels in the last week to form a united panel but his initiative failed.
Mohammedan Sporting Club, Wari Club, Dhaka Wanderers Club, Dhaka Mariners and Bangladesh Sports disagreed to take part in the Hockey Premier League until Khwaja Rahmatullah remained the general secretary of the federation.
Bangladesh Hockey Federation will go to polls for the 28 posts, including one secretary, five vice presidents, two joint secretaries, one treasurer and 19 executive members.
Among the 85 councilors, 31 from Dhaka Premier League clubs, 40 from district and division associations, five from National Sports Council, four from services teams, one each from Education Board, BKSP, Women’s Sports Association and last elected general secretary.
