Barrister Mainul Hosein said it is most painful that a nightmarish situation is developing over the need of free election with the help of sections of our own people. They are not Punjabis like in the days of Pakistan but playing anti-people role, he said while talking with the Channel-24 television on Tuesday evening. The coordinator was Ms Sabiha Nigar Dristee.
He rejected the need for compromise on parliamentary election system between Awami League and BNP because election under parliamentary system is to be held under an unelected caretaker government practised everywhere including in India.
In answer to a question Barrister Hosein straight away rejected any possibility of compromise to be reached by the government with BNP. The government cannot step down from power in conformity with parliamentary system to face free election. So an extreme power struggle is looming before us.
He further pointed out that the free press would have been a great help for the government to remain safe and democratic. But we are all living in fear and most journalists are party activists.
