A new trust fund titled, ‘Principal Syeda Jahanara Karim Scholarship Fund’, has been set up at the Department of Economics and the Department of Anthropology of Dhaka University (DU).
In order to establish the fund, late Principal Syeda Jahanara Karim’s daughter and Associate Professor of University of Oregon, USA Lamia N Karim handed over a cheque for Tk 5 lakh on behalf of her family to DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr Shahid Akhtar Hossain on Monday at the Vice-chancellor’s office.
DU VC Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique and former Professor of the Department of Anthropology of DU Dr HKS Arefin were present on the occasion.
Out of the income of this donation, every year two poor but meritorious female students – one from the Department of Economics and other from the Department of Anthropology – will be awarded ‘Principal Syeda Jahanara Karim Scholarship’.
