Nearly 990 flood affected small and marginal farmers of Sadullapur upazila of the district got Robi crops seed and chemical fertilizers from upazila agriculture office on Wednesday for current Robi season.
Of the total, some 310 affected farmers of the upazila received mustard seed with chemical fertilizer under Agri Incentive Programme of the government and 680 farmers received seed of khehari Kalai with chemical fertilizer under Agriculture Rehabilitation Programme of the government, official sources said.
On Wednesday afternoon, a seed and fertilizer distribution function under the auspices of upazila agriculture office was held on the office premises of the upazila town with Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nabi Neowaj in the chair.
Deputy Director (DD) of the Department Of Agriculture Extension (DAE) agriculturist Masudur Rahman attended the function as chief guest and Upazila Parishad Chairman Shahriar Khan Biplob, Vice Presidents of upazila Awami League Abdul Jalil and Mazharul Islam, member of upazila agriculture and irrigation committee Shahidul Islam Babla and local lawmaker’s representative Anwarul Azim were present at the event as the special guests.
The speakers urged the farmers to cultivate Robi crops on their land timely and nurture the crop field properly to get desired output against the crops to recover the losses caused by seasonal floods.
DD of the DAE agriculturist Masudur Rahman said the district experienced the devastating floods four times this year as a result, over 17000 hectares of land of T-Aman paddy went under flood water consequently the transplanted seedlings of Aman paddy were damaged making the farmers more worried about their food security.
Keeping this in view the government led by Sheikh Hasina adopted the agri incentive and agri rehabilitation programmes for the affected farmers of the district to help them recover their losses caused by the repeated floods.
Accordingly, the seed of various Robi crops are being distributed to the affected farmers of seven upazilas including Sadullapur one of the district, he added.
The DD also advised the farmers to sow the seed of the Robi crops and use chemical fertilizers as per the suggestion of the field level block supervisor to get desired yield against the crops.
Later, DD agriculturist Masudur Rahman formally inaugurated the seed and the fertilizer distribution activities among the farmers as chief guest.
Each 310 farmers got one kilogram (KG) of mustard seed with 10 KGs of Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and 10 kg of Murate of Potash (MoP) to cultivate the variety on one bigha of land under agri incentive programme and 680 farmers each received 8 kgs Kheshari Kalai seed with five kg of MoP and five kg of DAP from the guests.
