The authority of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) has cancelled the recruitment of 96 staff among recently appointed 313 employees due to illegal appointment procedure.
Acting Registrar of BAU Md Saiful Islam confirmed the matter on Sunday.
Sources said, on February 26 ex-VC of BAU Prof Dr Rafiqul Haque appointed 313 staff illegally against 287 positions. Later on March 3 the University Grants Commission (UGC) postponed the recruitment for because of alleged abnormality, corruption and exchange of money during the procedure.
In that situation, in the face of protest against Prof Rafique for his alleged involvement in corruption, exchanging money and sexual scandal, he resigned from his post on April 7. On 24 May the authority appointed Prof Dr Ali Akbar as the new VC of the university. After the appointment of new VC the newly recruited staff put pressure on him to withdraw the postponed order. As there was allegation of corruption and money exchanging, Prof Akbar formed a probe committee headed by Prof Dr Md Abul Kashem to investigate the matter.
Acting registrar of BAU Md Saiful Islam said that the probe committee found different anomalies and corruption in the appointment procedure of those recruited staff.
About the cancellation the acting VC of university Prof Dr Afzal Hossain said, we voided the recruitment of the staffs on the basis of the investigation of the probe committee.
