Staff Reporter :A total of 951 workers lost their lives in workplace accidents in the country in 2015, said a report of Bangladesh Occupational Safety, Health and Environmental Foundation (OSHE) on Friday.Among them, 276 died in formal (appointed) sector and 675 in informal (not appointed) sector, while 907 workers were injured. Highest number of accidents occurred in RMG, construction sector, shipbreaking industry and cement factory, said the survey of OSHE.The Survey report was disclosed in Dhaka Reporters Unity yesterday (Friday) in a press briefing titled ‘State of workplace safety in Bangladesh’. Vice- Chairman of OSHE Dr. SM Morshed presented the findings to the media.OSHE official Taherul Islam and Arifa S Alam were also present in the programme.The report has recommended for enforcement of labour laws, transparent and regular inspection system, establishment of occupational safety unit in the Ministry of Labour and Employment and establishment of occupational health and safety policy.
