Bangladesh Railway authority (West) in a drive removed around 500 illegal establishments in Station Bazar and Chamrapotti area of the town today.
Executive Magistrate of Railway Md Nuruzzaman led the drive that started at 10 am and continued till this afternoon.
Assistant Commissioner (land) Md Anisur Rahman was present during the drive along with a large number of Ansar men.
Md Nuruzzaman said a Container Terminal would be built on the free land in the coming days.
BSS from Khulna adds: The ongoing eviction drive on both banks of the River Mayur and 26 canals, the economic life line of Khulna, continued for the sixty six consecutive days on Tuesday.
The district administration has been conducting the drive in collaboration with Khulna City Corporation (KCC), Khulna Development Authority (KDA), Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) and Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP).
Executive magistrates of KCC and District Administration Khan Masum Billah and Md Mizanur Rahman, Officials of District Administration and KCC are leading the drive beginning from September 1, said Estate Officer of KCC Nuruzzaman Talukder.
Around 450 illegal structures in different areas including Sonadanga Bus Stand, Buro Moulivir Dargah, Nirala Prantika area, Kashem nagor,Gallamari, Adorsho Pally, Hafiz Nagor, Tutpara and on the banks of the River Mayur and 26 canals, have been freed from illegal occupation in more than two months long drive .
The drives also recovered nearly eight acres of land bulldozing 450 illegal structures, he said.
Talking to BSS, Khulna Deputy commissioner Mohammad Helal Hossain said drives
will continue until eviction of all illegal structures situated on the banks of the River Mayur, Bhairab, Rupsha and 26 city canals .
