The remittance inflow to the country during the first 21 days of the current month showed an encouraging sign, totalling US$ 927.60 million till February 21.
The remittance inflow last month (January) totalled $ 1,260.66 million, according to the latest data provided by the Bangladesh Bank (BB).
The central bank data showed that some $ 14,461.14 million came as remittance in the last fiscal year (2012-13).
It also showed that of the total remitted amount during the 21 days of February, the highest $610.49 million came through the private commercial banks. This was followed by $296.78 million through four state-owned commercial banks, $10.85 million through four specialised banks and $9.48 million through foreign commercial banks operating in Bangladesh.
Analysing the BB data, it was found that the highest amount of $248.41 million came through Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd. This was followed by $103.08 million through Agrani Bank; $98.12 million through Sonali Bank Ltd; $84.82 million through Janata Bank Ltd; $44.47 million through National Bank Ltd; $23.99 million through Brac Bank Ltd; and $32.96 million through Pubali Bank Ltd.
Of the total $14,461.14 million remitted to Bangladesh during the last fiscal year (FY 13), $1,210.21 million came in December 2013; $1,061.45 million in November 2013; $1,230.68 million in October 2013; $ 1,005.77 million in August 2013; $ 1,238.49 million in July; $ 1,058.24 million in June last year.
Country’s remittance inflow totalled $12,843.43 million in 2011-12 fiscal while $11,650.31 million in the previous fiscal (2010-11).
