UNB, Cumilla :
Almost 90 percent buildings in the Cumilla City Corporation area were constructed in unplanned ways and many of them violated their designs, Mayor Monirul Haque Sakku said recently.
The city corporation recently identified 335 such buildings and sent a list to the fire service, said CUCC Assistant Engineer Md Abdus Salam. “We’ll send the list to the district administration and the concerned ministry,” he said.
Mayor Sakku said, many people took permission to construct buildings on condition that they will keep 10 feet space for roads but they kept only five feet.
He said, they failed to take steps as the city corporation does not have its own executive magistrate.
The UNB correspondent found at least 19 buildings on which red notices from the city corporation were pasted informing everyone that the specific buildings had violated designs.
Badrul Huda Jenu, president of Sochetan Nagarik Committee Cumilla, blamed the lack of supervision of the city corporation’s officers.
He said, the city corporation is yet to take steps against buildings that violated the codes. The mayor promised actions. “We’ll go tough on them,” he said.
